(Copied and pasted from my AAS site 'cuz I'm lazy!)
It's broken. Seriously.
I was finally able to see a doctor today, after a lot of "we'll see you - oh wait! No we won't! We don't take your insurance 'cuz your poor!" crapity-crap.
He gave me a nice detailed description using the actual names of the bones (which I promptly forgot! >.<) and a handy-dandy plastic figurine of the knee (which came apart and somehow that made me kinda sick). I have neither, but I'll try to give you a general run down of my injury.
Basically there's your main upper leg bone (Femur?) and main lower leg bone (Tibia?) - these two came crashing together in my fall, causing the upper part of the Tibia to break off. There's this weak-looking, smaller bone that lies next to that lower bone - the Fibula. Dr. Taylor told me that it was because of the support that the Fibula offered that I did not end up getting any more severe bone damage. (Not as weak as I thought!)
So..... now I have to wear this fitted brace (it's pretty spiffy, actually) for a minimum of 4 months while my bones heal. After that I shall get another CT Scan and they will re-evaluate my situation. I guess there's some cushioning stuff in between those bones that may have been damaged, but they bones need to heal first, and then I might have to have surgery if it was torn badly enough.
Right now? Crutch walking for two weeks, brace on even while sleeping. Then I'll find out from the doctor whether I can walk without crutches.
Also - if anyone had heard my crinkly knees before this accident, I found out what has been causing that. I apparently had weak knees to begin with and yo-yoing in weight from pregnancies just made it worse. After my bone heals, Dr. Taylor will help me work to have stronger knees.
THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE WHO HELPED ME OUT! I appreciate the rides to and from school and the hospital. Thanks for pushing and/or carrying me too. You guys are the best! ^O^
