Omoki shrugged. "Dis town? i was jus' passin' tru. Dis room? I needed a place to rest for de night, an' dis looked as good as any. Better den most, really." He winked at her. "How 'bout you?"

Kasumi blushed. "I-I needed somewhere to stay for the night as well. But I don't really like this town." She wrinkled her nose. "The smell..."
Just then, Kasumi heard footsteps coming towards her room. She quickly turned to Omoki with a frantic expression, unable to give him any verbal warning.

Omoki had been ready for this. His relaxed stance became a ready crouch, and then he was up and out the window. He looked around, saw no one, and proceeded to the road in front of the house. Once there, he took another swig from his jug, then engaged a passing old-timer in idle conversation about the weather as he waited for his new friend to emerge from the house.

The footsteps went past Kasumi's room and a few moments later went back the way they had come. Even though her hostess hadn't entered her room again, she still thought that leaving would be a good idea. She had obviously already outstayed what little welcome she had there and the thought of a traveling partner intrigued her.
She said goodbye to the merchant family with a smile and a courteous bow and then went outside to see if she could find Omoki again.

When Omoki saw Kasumi emerge from the house, he ended his talk with the old gentleman. "I's gonna see if dat lady wants to travel wit' me," he said in the way of a goodbye. The old man chuckled and waved him away, continuing with his business.
Omoki walked up to Kasumi and bowed slightly. "What's a pretty ting like you doin' 'round 'ere? Need a' escort outta town?" Omoki winked at her and grinned conspiratorially, letting her chose the direction of their travel.

Kasu blushed and raised a sleeve to her face. She nodded at his question and began to lead him down the lonely road leading out of town, away from the fishy port and into the grasslands nearby.
"That went well." She said after a few minutes on the road. "My hosts were all to happy to see me leave.."

"Dat's why i didn't botha to ask to stay; easier to jus' 'hang around'" Omoki said with a smile. "So where we off to? Hopefully, someplace wit' hotsprings. I need a bath, bad." Omoki wrinkled his nose at the lingering smell of fish.

"A bath sounds nice..." Kasumi thought. "Wherever you like." She smiled. "Though, I believe most of the hot springs are up north from here...." She took a few moments to think. "But I do no a clean beach. We could reach it by this afternoon!"

"Well, de water won't be hot, but it's betta than nothin'. Let's go!" Omoki picked his pace up slightly, eager to arrive.
During the walk, Omoki made small talk, telling about his past, and letting Kasumi put in however much (or little) of her own discussion as she wanted.

Kasumi tried to be a polite and engaging traveling companion, but she didn't speak to much about herself. Occasionally she talked about the family that had adopted her, but she kept her travels to her true homeland to herself.
When finally they reached the beach she had spoke of she smiled. "Well, the water's probably still cool, I'm afraid. But at least it's a warm day!" ^.^

Omoki stripped off most of his clothes and threw them on a rock at the edge of the sand. Turning to Kasumi, wearing only his fundoshi, he said, "Cold watah and warm sunshine make for a great day to swim! You gonna join me?"

Kasumi blinked at Omoki's brazen show of skin. She blushed for a moment but then laughed it away, there was something about Omoki that made it impossible to stay caught up on silly formalities.
"For now I think I'll just test the water a little." She removed her sandals, tabi and kimono and began to wade through the shallow water in her juban.
(Juban is basically an under-kimono. It covers the body mostly like a kimono but it's a bit shorter and has short sleeves, usually)

Omoki watched her wade in slowly, smiling. He then let out a whoop, and ran past her, splashing her somewhat, as he ran out into the water and dove in. When he surfaced, he shook his head and shivered. "Brrrrrrrr! Nice an' cold! You might'a noticed, I like t'ings at de extremes; hot baths, cold ocean, stuff like dat. Oh, sorry 'bout gettin' you wet, dere." He grinned his goofy smile again, then dove below the waves to swim around for a bit.

Kasumi's juban was a very pale shade of pink; when Omoki splashed her it had the effect of wetting a white t-shirt. She had smaller undrgarments on as well so she wasn't exposed, but some parts of her juban had become transparent and were clinging to her body.
She didn't seem to mind too much, though, as she smiled back and continued to wade through the water.

Omoki swam out as far as he could hold his breath, then let his (un)natural buoyancy carry him to the surface. He then swam lazily back in, letting the warm sun shine on him. When he got back in by Kasumi, he swam next to her and said, "You jus' gonna wade all day? Come join me in de deep wata!" He then paddled out again slowly, smiling at her.
